Updated 4th October – Manila: This event Postponed to 19/20 February, 2011. The Kayak Explore Philippines kayaking series set off again for their second major event in 2010 at Ayucyucan, Mercedes, Camarines Norte. This will be a more extreme kayaking event than most of their previous outings because, in November, the Pacific coast of the Philippines receives the steady northeast monsoon breezes – creating large swells and rollers along the beaches. An additional attraction will be to try your hand at kayak-surfing, if the rollers are rolling in.

According to the organizers they already have enough kayakers to fill almost half the kayaks available and because of the potentially rough conditions they will be limiting the races to 25 tandem-kayaks only. So if you want to get you and your partner wet in an ocean kayak on the Philippine Pacific coast then you had better sign up fast.

The Pacific coast around Mercedes is dotted with magical islands, mostly almost virgin and some with simply spectacular beaches. There is actually an island for sale in the vicinity so while you are paddling why not keep a look out for a new investment property or two.

This Kayak Explore Philippines event was originally scheduled 27th – 28th November but is now postponed to 19th-20th February, 2011, and will be headquartered at the Palm Far Resort, located in a sheltered cove near Mercedes town. The longest race will be the 25km kayaking marathon but there will be novice events as well as training sessions.

There are other reasons to spend time in the Mercedes area. Apart from beaches swimming and snorkeling, the Mercedes islands of Camarines Norte boast an exciting array of adventures such as caving, river trekking and swimming with whale sharks.

To get to Ayucyucan, Mercedes, you can either travel by road from Manila (6-8 hours) or fly to Naga City and then take land transport (30 mins – 1 hour).
