Philippine Sailing Team In Asean Para Games

The 5th Asean Para Games featuring the Philippine Sailing Team from Sailability Philippines will be held in Kuala Lumpur and other locations in Malaysia, between 15 – 19 August, 2009. The sailing portion of the Asean Para Games will be held at the Admiral Marina and Leisure Club in Port Dickson.

Ten Asean Para Sports Federation (APSF) member nations plus Timor Leste will be participating in this games with approximately 1200 athletes and officials involved. Competitive sports in eleven disciplines will be featured including: athletics, badminton, power-lifting, sailing, chess, swimming, table tennis, bowling, volleyball, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis.

The Philippine Sailing Team from Sailability Philippines will be competing in the Access 2.3 and Access Liberty sailing classes, with boats especially designed for disabled people. The two stars of the Philippine Sailing Team, competing in the Asean Para Games disciplines in Port Dickson, are Cherrie Pinpin and Alson Tumbagahan, who competed in the similar FESPIC event in Port Dickson in November 2006 (see photograph) – “I’m in the mauve Liberty, my teammate Alson Tumbagahan is in the orange Liberty”, writes Cherrie.

If you are planning to be in Kuala Lumpur around the 15th to 19th August then take a side trip to Port Dickson to cheer on the Philippine Sailing Team as they aim to better their performance in 2006 and this time bring home some gold.
