This kayaking event has been renamed Kayak Explore Cavite Corregidor Bataan but is still part of the Kayak Philippines Series. A great way to GetWet in September.
For those of you who did not make it to the eco tours Kayak Explore One Hundred Islands event in April, this second kayaking event in the Kayak Philippines Series 2009, from 18th – 20th September, is your best chance to GetWet on a kayak: kayaking from Caylabne Bay to Corregidor, Bataan at Camaya Cove. This Kayak Explore Philippine kayaking event is open to experienced, novice and beginner kayaking canoe enthusiasts who want to paddle a sea kayak canoe and spend a couple of days in the company of like minded individuals. Kayaking packages and tour packages for kayakers and families are available.
The 16 Km race to Corregidor Island from Caylabne Bay is for the experienced kayaking canoe enthusiasts while the other legs along the beaches and coves of Corregidor Island are for both novice and experienced kayakers, of all ages – the youngest paddler taking part in the Kayak Explore One Hundred Islands event was only twelve years old and the eldest was 60+.
The sea kayak canoes used during the event are safe and robust enough for two adults to GetWet with a smile on their faces. Life jackets are provided but you must bring your own sunblock; a cap or sun-hat and a towel are also recommended. If you are planning to bring a camera (highly recommended) then you should put it in a dry-bag when not in use or, you can have it carried in the accompanying motor launch while you paddle.
During the first leg, for experienced kayakers, from Cavite to Corregidor, novice kayakers will be ferried across to Corregidor Island by motor launch, where camp will be set for the evening festivities. Both experienced and novice kayakers will then kayak across to Bataan for a beach party at Camaya Cove.
Back on Corregidor Island before sundown, everyone will have the chance to enjoy a Ghosts of Corregidor party while camping on the beaches or staying in the Corregidor Island hotels and hostels. Between kayaking legs, explore the ruins of Fortress Corregidor, from where General Douglas MacArthur departed the Philippines in March 1942 (and, following his arrival in Australia, famously vowed “I shall Return”) or, hike up to the Corregidor lighthouse or, you can chill out on the unspoiled beaches of Corregidor Island, where Manila Bay meets the South China Sea.
For spectators and friends who do not want to kayak, but still want to join in the fun and meet the ghosts of Corregidor then there is the option of either following the kayakers across from Cavite in boats provided or, taking the ferry from Manila Bay Ferry Terminal (beside the CCP) for an excursion trip to Corregidor Island.
The Kayak Explore Cavite Corregidor Bataan kayaking event will be followed later in the year by a five-day kayaking explorer event, starting on Mactan Island, Cebu, and passing through the islands between Cebu and Bohol before finally arriving on Panglao Island, Bohol.
Kayaking is an environmentally friendly way to see the Philippines and supports the eco tours Philippines initiative . . . and the aerobic exercise will keep you young.
