The first ever Kayak Explore Anvaya Cove / Subic Bay 25 Km Kayaking Marathon event will be held here this May, to highlight the natural beauty of the entire Subic Bay area. This kayak marathon event is the latest in the Philippine Kayaking Series, which has already taken kayaking enthusiasts to One Hundred Islands, Corregidor Island, Cebu & Bohol.

In addition to the 25 Km marathon event, there will also be: novice races, kayaking clinics (to train first time kayakers) and presentations on the creatures that frequent the beaches of Subic Bay, including the Pawikan (Sea Turtle), which regularly use the Subic Bay’s beaches as places to lay their eggs.

The goal is to bring together more of the Philippines’ kayaking enthusiasts and to encourage visiting foreign kayakers to join in and enjoy their sport amongst the 7107 island of the Philippine archipelago.

Starting at the Anvaya Cove Beach and Nature Club, Morong, Bataan Waterfront Area, on the southern shores of the Subic Bay Freeport Zone the kayaking marathon will be completed in two legs. Between the two marathon legs the 5 Km Novice Race (for first time kayakers and casual kayaking enthusiasts) and a kayaking clinic, will give those who are new to the sport a chance to practice the techniques that maximize speed and distance at the same time as saving energy.

Understanding and protecting the environment are important goals of the Philippine Kayaking Series. In Subic Bay the understanding and protecting will center on the mangrove areas that remain and the Pawikan (Sea Turtle), whose habitat is being relentlessly eroded by Man in his unstoppable lust for profit at any cost.

The Kayak Explore Anvaya Cove / Subic Bay 25 Km Kayaking Marathon event is scheduled for 29-30 May, 2010, and the event entrance fee of Php2,000 per person includes: the race entry fee, kayak rental, meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Breakfast & Lunch), dormitory-type accommodation & a souvenir T-shirt. The kayaks used during the kayak race events will be tandem sit-on-top style sea kayaks.

The organisers have advised us that the number of sea kayaks is limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. So register now if you want to have the option of renting a kayak (see below for contact details).

If you want to bring their own kayak, you are most welcome, but the kayak type should be approved by the race committee before you can expect to receive a prize for racing. If you want other accommodation, other than dormitory, then that can be arranged also at nearby beach resorts and resort hotels.
