Alona Beach, Panglao Island, Bohol, Philippines will host the 1st Alona Beach Digital Underwater Shoot-out, digital underwater photography scuba diving event, on 10th July 2009. The entry fee will be Php500, inclusive of the Awards Dinner.
This Digital Underwater Shoot-out is organised in collaboration with MADaboutUS, the Blue Group of Mr. Joel Uichico, and the Bohol Dive Operators, based on Alona Beach. The Digital Underwater Shoot-out is the most colourful annual scuba diving event in the Philippines.
The theme of the Digital Underwater Shoot-out event is primarily to promote Marine Ecological Awareness around the Philippines through digital underwater photography. Prizes will be awarded for the best digital underwater photography in the: special beginner, intermediate and open categories. The Digital Underwater Shoot-out event is open to any scuba diving enthusiast with a digital underwater camera.
The organisers are optimistic for a high turn out of participants for this scuba diving event, from both domestic and international sources, because it will also be held coincident with the annual Sandugo Festival Celebration in the Province of Bohol. For the non-scuba diving visitors to Bohol, the Sandugo Festival is the colourful celebration the first treaty between a native chieftain (Datu Sikatuna) and Spanish invaders, in the form of a blood-pact, on 16th March, 1565.
Months before the actual Digital Underwater Shoot-out competition, the organizers have schedules for the training Divemasters and dive guides in Bohol, to provide orientation concerning the technicalities, terminology and the aspirations of the underwater photography participants. The organisers have the vision that the Alona Beach Digital Underwater Shoot-out event to be institutionalized annually in Bohol, to facilitate the appetite for lens challenges of the digital underwater photography enthusiasts.
