The impending opening of a new marina on Samal Island confirms that the island is maturing into an all-round water sports destination. The all new Holiday Oceanview Marina will open its pontoons for visiting yachts from August, 2010.

GetWet has been watching the development of the Holiday Oceanview Marina since it first came onto our radar three years ago. As with most things on Samal Island, it has taken a lot longer than originally envisaged to reach a stage of functionality. Along with the adjacent property development and sub-division, the new marina is an integral part of a water sports vacation destination, about 30-minutes from Davao International Airport.

The Holiday Oceanview Marina will accommodate up to 60 boats with a maximum draft of 11-feet. Tied up along the marina pontoons from November, 2010, boats will be able to plug in to shore power & fresh water, and Internet; other facilities will be offered as local resources allow.

Foundation-works for the Holiday Oceanview Marina clubhouse took place on Monday, 24th May, 2010, (bottom left in the photograph) and full services are expected to available at the clubhouse from November, 2010.

Within 2011 the entire Holiday Oceanview development will offer: a selection of hotel / villa / townhouse accommodation; a fully equipped water sports facility, offering scuba diving, snorkeling, jet ski rental, banana boat rides; restaurants; a spa and indulgence retreat on a man-made coral island; and, direct transport links to Davao International Airport and other key locations around the Davao Gulf and Samal Island.

GetWet thought for the day: the Holiday Oceanview Marina is about 2-hours from Manila, Subic Bay marina is about 2.5-hours from Manila, and Punta Fuego marina is about 3-hours from Manila; the Holiday Oceanview Marina on Samal Island doesn’t suffer from typhoons, Subic Bay & Punta Fuego suffer from multiple typhoons every year. If you are interested all year round sailing destination then the Holiday Oceanview Marina on Samal Island makes good sense.

If you are interested to buy a sail boat, and have it ready for lazy days cruising down to the Pearl Farm Beach Resort for lunch or, weekends away exploring the other tropical islands and beaches of the Davao Gulf, then this could be music to you ears: the 38-foot Irish Melody cruising sail boat for sale is waiting for you now on Samal Island.
