The all new London Pub is now open for business on Clark Field, Pampanga, across the street from the Grill Room, just off the Parade Ground near the CDC offices.
Three years in dreaming, designing and making, the London Pub is one of the few places in Clark where you can have a civilised beer in a tropical destination with some wholesome pub grub and the chance of chatting to the occasional authentic Englishmen in Asia.
The London Pub is the latest creation of Chef Philip from the Grill Room, to answer the need for a place to congregate on-base when you don't know who else is around, and a place for social and networking function

From 1st February, 2009, the International Cospas-Sarsat Program will terminate satellite processing of distress signals from 121.5/243 MHz emergency beacons (EPIRBs and PLBs); only distress signals from the newer 406 MHz EPRIBs and PLBs will be processed. The bottom line is that if you are still carrying one of the 121.5/243 MHz EPIRBs or PLBs in February, and you find you are in significant distress, requiring immediate rescue assistance, don't bother flicking the switch . . . instead you can make the last entry in your diary: that you should have given yourself a new, 406 for Xmas.

An alternative tropical destination to Boracay in January? Cebu Pacific Air announces a thrice-weekly fly direct to Siargao service between Mactan Cebu International Airport and Siargao Island, with a year-round 'Go Lite' one way fare of Php 888 (plus fuel surcharges and tax). This is great news for the international surfing community and great news for tourism development in Siargao.
Most people know about Cloud 9 – the top ten in the world surfing break on the East coast of Siargao Island, near the town of General Luna. However, most people don't know about the opportunities for scuba diving on Siargao Island's almost virgin coral reef

The 21st Boracay Funboard Cup, on Bulabog Beach, originally scheduled for January 2009, is postponed until 2010. The organisers told us only yesterday that there is a lot more to the story and to contact DoT, PTA and DENR; there being no more time for this issue . . . read next
Boracay Island is going through some growing pains as it competes with the other top ten best tropical destinations in the World for the best beach awards supremacy. One of the largest issues is the treatment of sewage: with so many people visiting such a small island it is a challenge

The Philippine Boat Show, taking place on 20th - 22nd March, 2009, in front of the Mall Of Asia, Pasay City, will be a festival of beauty and grace on and off the water. Promoting everything from luxury yachts and powerboats to the best beach resort and Philippine tropical destination for water sports, the Philippine Boat Show 2009 will be packing in the buyers throughout the three days of the event.
One of the newest powerboats on display will be this Coastline 31, that I had the great pleasure to take out for a spin a couple of weeks ago, pictured here near the Cebu Yacht Club. The Coastline 31 is ideal for the motivated family that wants to get to the best beach resort, remote beaches and islands fas

While in Subic Bay ten days ago, along the beach near The Lighthouse Marina Resort, I met Ari Bradley and George Gesner preparing to go windsurfing, they asked me if I had been "to SUP in La Union or Pangasinan"? My first thought was that they meant, had I eaten in one or both of these provinces: "yes, of course" I replied . . . what they really meant was, had I been Stand Up Paddleboarding ("SUP").
Stand Up Paddleboarding is the latest water sports craze to hit the Philippines. It appeals to surfers (and windsurfers and kiteboarders) when the wind and or the waves are otherwise not conducive to exciting tubes and breaks or other rapid transits.

Freediving is simply said: diving with a single breath of air. If you go into more detail for some, freediving is a way to enjoy the depths of the ocean without the need of heavy, clumsy and uncomfortable scuba diving equipment. Others see freediving as an extreme sport, with the uniqueness of requiring deep relaxation and peace in contrast to most other adrenaline pumping extreme sports. Some others also see freediving as an discipline for hunting underwater. Regardless of what draws one into the practice of Freediving, it is a form of meditation and relaxation that very often leads to a positive change in one's awareness of oneself and the surrounding environment.
Many now will say: "But I cannot hold my breath for a long time!"; you can! Within only two days you can learn the basic techniques of freediving
